JAPONISME

Atelier Rouge’s collaboration with Clara Blanc began when she, a French living in Japan, thought about the 19th century Japonisme paintings. Clara chose Japanese pottery as the material to represent fragile time. The collection invites you to travel back in time to the Paris Universal Exposition in 1867.

Utagawa Hiroshige(1797-1858):
名所江戸百景 大はしあたけの夕立
木版多色刷 大判錦絵, 34cm x 24.1cm

Vincent van Gogh (1853 – 1890):
Bridge in the Rain (after Hiroshige),
Oil on canvas, 73.3 cm x 53.8 cm

At the Paris World Exposition of 1867, Japanese ukiyo-e, pottery, and other crafts were introduced, inspiring European artists of the time.
